THE FOREIGNER by LARRY SHUE. A farce set in a rural fishing lodge in Georgia. Froggy LeSueur wants to put his friend, Charlie Baker, at ease. Charlie is pathologically shy and is terrified at the prospect of having to converse with strangers at the lodge for three days. They come up with a plan where Charlie is a "foreigner" who can't speak or understand English. However, he starts overhearing conversations, and chaos and hilarity ensue in true farcical fashion. (7 characters).
SHERLOCK HOLMES by ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE & WILLIAM GILLETTE. “The game is afoot, Watson—and it is a dangerous one!”. Incriminating letters written by a young European prince to the English girl he betrayed are in the hands of the dead girl's sister. And the evil Professor Moriarity has returned to kill Sherlock Holmes, unleashing a complex and clever plan to lure the great detective to his death. Made into a 1981 TV movie starring Frank Langella as the detective. Includes all the makings of the great detective that fans have come to expect: danger, intrigue, wit, humor and surprise.

CARNIVAL by BOB MERRILL & MICHAEL STEWART. Lili, a French orphan, runs away to join a famous travelling carnival. Enchanted by the atmosphere of the carnival she is smitten by the suave magician, Marco the Magnificent. Despite Marco's relationship with his assistant, The Incomparable Rosalie, he becomes infatuated with Lili. Paul Berthalet is a puppeteer, who through hard luck has become a crippled and embittered but soon falls in love with Lili, while becoming jealous of Marco. His love for Lili comes out through his puppets, and soon Lili joins the puppet act. Marco and Paul soon find themselves vying for Lili's affections. With lovable, memorable songs, including "Love Makes The World Go 'Round". (6 characters and ensemble).

SOCIAL SECURITY by ANDREW BERGMAN.Trendy Manhattan art gallery owners Barbara and David Kahn have their life upended in this hilarious comedy when her goody-goody nerdy sister Trudy and uptight accountant husband deposit their old eccentric mother Sophie on the couple's doorstep while they head off to Buffalo to rescue their precocious daughter from the "college lifestyle". Sophie is introduced to the suave 90-year-old artist Maurice, who offers to paint her portrait and they end up hitting it off as she ends up in situations she never expected at her age. Opened on Broadway in 1986, starring Ron Silver, Marlo Thomas, and Olympia Dukakis (as Sophie). Won the Tony Award for best actress Joanna Gleason (Trudy). (6 characters).
ROOM SERVICE by ALLEN BORETZ & JOHN MURRAY.
This classic screw-ball comedy centers around the efforts of an unscrupulous producer to find a financial backer for his new show. Holed up in a Times Square hotel with nineteen hungry actors and a ballooning room service bill, he tries to forestall eviction by convincing the show's gullible young playwright to fake his own death. Meanwhile, an emissary from one of the country's wealthiest businessmen turns up with money to invest in the show; that is, until he discovers the hotel doctor bound and gagged in the bathroom. The situation goes from bad to worse as the much-abused hotel manager threatens to have the entire show confiscated by the sheriff on opening night! Made into the 1938 movie and adapted for the Marx Brothers and Lucille Ball. It was most recently revived in 2007 Off-Broadway. (14 characters).
THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO by ALFRED UHRY. This romantic comedy is set at Christmastime in 1939 in the home of a prominent Jewish family in an otherwise Christian Atlanta. Between the opening strains of Christmas carols and the closing prayer of Shabbat Shalom, we see a family pulled apart and mended back together. Culturally, "Gone with the Wind" is having its world premiere and Hitler is invading Poland, but the biggest worry in the Freitag family is who's going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the year. It's a story full of comedy, romance, and family eccentrics befitting the holiday season. Opened on Broadway in 1997. Won the Tony Award for Best Play. (7 characters).
REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT by ROD SERLING. A washed-up prizefighter faces the sudden end of his career. Having spent 14 years in the ring, He is torn between the possibility of new love and a promising future offered by a social worker, and loyalty to his self-serving manager, who wants to exploit the fighter on the lucrative professional wrestling circuit. Widely regarded as one of the greatest sports dramas of all time, it's a gut-wrenching account of the merciless prizefight game and the human wreckage it leaves in its wake. Written by Rod Serling of "Twilight Zone" fame, who was a former boxer himself. Made into the 1962 movie starring Anthony Quinn and Jackie Gleason. (14 characters)..
LAURA by VERA CASPARY & GEORGE SKLAR. When Mark McPherson first falls in love with Laura, he knows he's in love with a phantom—for Laura is dead, and he's in charge of her murder investigation. From her portrait, her letters, her personal effects and from his contacts with the three men who loved her, Mark has created an image of a woman tantalizingly alive and real. When she appears in the midst of a thunderstorm, very much alive after all, it is revealed that Laura's best friend (and rival) was the true victim of the crime. But now, all evidence seems to point to Laura's guilt. Despite his growing love for her, Mark must try and solve the crime and decide Laura's innocence. (8 characters).
A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE by ARTHUR MILLER. This passionate drama about Italian-American immigrant life in the 1950s examines the promise, and failure, of the American Dream. Brooklyn longshoreman Eddie Carbone lives in a tight-knit Italian neighborhood with his wife, Beatrice, and orphaned niece Catherine, whose emerging independence and womanhood disturb him. When two of Beatrice's impoverished Sicilian cousins enter the country illegally, Catherine falls in love with one of them and agrees to marry. As he desperately tries to keep his family from unraveling, Eddie's feelings for his niece turn into an obsession he can neither understand nor acknowledge. His actions have far-reaching effects in the community and lead to a climatic confrontation in a tale of love, betrayal and revenge. Made into the 1961 movie directed by Sidney Lumet. ANNIE by CHARLES STROUSE, MARTIN CHARNIN, & THOMAS MEEHAN. Based on the popular comic strip, Annie is a fiery young orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of the wealthy munitions industrialist, Oliver Warbucks. Quickly, she charms the hearts of the household staff and even the seemingly cold-hearted Warbucks cannot help but learn to love this wonderful girl. He decides to help Annie find her long lost parents by offering a reward if they would come to him and prove their identity. However, Miss Hannigan, her evil brother, Rooster, plan to impersonate those people to get the reward for themselves which put Annie in great danger. Fun memorable songs include "It's the Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," and the ever optimistic "Tomorrow". Opened on Broadway in 1977, winning Tony Award for Best Musical. MAN OF LA MANCHA by DALE WASSERMAN, MITCH LEIGH, & JOE DARION. The musical tells the tale of author Miguel de Cervantes who, imprisoned and awaiting trial before the Spanish Inquisition, joins with his fellow prisoners to perform a play about Don Quixote de la Mancha, the mad knight who quests for justice and tilts at windmills. Includes the dramatic songs "I, Don Quixote", "Dulcinea", "Little Bird", and of course "The Impossible Dream", the show's world-famous hit song, which has been recorded by practically every major vocalist, from Frank Sinatra to Placido Domingo to Elvis Presley. Based on the book by Cervantes. Made into the 1972 movie starring Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren. Opened on Broadway in 1966 and won the Tony Award for Best Actor and Best Musical. (22 characters).
MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS by HUGH MARTIN & RALPH BLANE. A slice of 1900's America that probably was never so perfect, but we would like to think that it was. It's a love story between a girl named Esther Smith and "The Boy Next Door", as well as her family's story in turn-of-the-century middle America. Includes the very fun "The Trolley Song", "Under The Bamboo Tree", and the now classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Based on the 1944 movie starring Judy Garland. (18 characters and ensemble).

TheatreBox is looking for volunteers who can run lights or sound or back stage work for our production of "Dial 'M' For Murder" the weekend of August 7,8,9,10, Thursday thru Sunday.
We also need people to help us put up promotional flyers toward the end of the week of July 25. Refreshment servers will also be needed at each of the performances.
Most of all, we need audience. The 7,8,9 performances are at 8:00pm, the 10th is at 2:00pm.
